Instructor Course Schedule

This course is self directed. However, you should follow the format to have maximum success. Students will need computer and internet access. Appropriate text and skills CD Rom.

Step 1

  • Sign up for the course -cost $125.00

  • Skills DVD will be provided upon enrollment as a loaner.  It will need to be returned to receive course completion certificate.
  • Read text book
  • Review Power Point presentation on Evolve web site (you will receive login after paying registration fee).
  • Download and read US Department of Transportation Student Study Guide 1st Edition-1986 (DSHS EMS Compliance Instructor Exam is based on the information in this document).

Step 3

  • Register for the Elsevier Master Teacher Online Certification Course (there is no additional charge for this course).
The link to register is located when you logon to the EVOLVE website

 Complete on-line final exam.

Step 5

Submit a Power Point Presentation (10 slide minimum) and evaluation quiz (minimum of 10 questions w/answer key) for lesson on a subject of their choice that is not EMS related.

Step 6

  • Review skills DVD, and skills testing criteria documents. The videos will give you direction on how to teach and conduct EMS skills testing to meet State and NREMT standards.
  • Submit a minimum of a 3 minute to a 10 minute maximum self video of teaching an EMS Skill. The video should include the appropriate and necessary equipment needed for a course presentation.

Options to bypass Step 5 and 6

  • In person review of their student teaching presentation
    •  Students may request a face to face evaluation of their student teaching by the course coordinator.
      •  Students in the El Paso, TX area can be evaluated without additional cost.
      • Students may travel to the El Paso area and be evaluated at no additional cost.
      • Students anywhere else within the state of Texas will be accommodated without additional cost if an instructor with EMS Online Training Plus is available in the area requested.
      • The coordinator can be scheduled to travel tot the lcoation requested for the cost of travel to the area by the most reasonable method.
          OR
  Advanced credit based on prior teaching experience and credentialing:

                    The following credentials will be considered a substitute for Steps 2, 4 and 5 and must cover experience for a minimum of two years prior:

  • Credentials as an EMS instructor in another state
  • Credetials as a Fire Instructor

  • Credentials as an American Heart Association Instructor for any of the disciplines
  • Credentials as a Military Instructor for any and all branches of the US Armed Forces.
  • Degree in Education with experience in teaching adult education courses
Students will submit copies of all the following:
  • Copies of applicable instructor credentials

  • A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation attesting to their teaching skills

  • Documentation of the last two years of teaching experience—must be able to be verified.
